What Is A Session Like?
Sessions are 50-60 minutes long. Most of my meetings are online through Zoom, but I am delighted to meet in person if you live near Augusta GA. Sessions are one-on-one, fully confidential, and involve talking and listening. Spiritual direction also includes some moments of silence and stillness, prayer, thoughtful questions or prompts, and our listening together for the voice of God in your life. I do not ever record or keep notes on sessions unless I obtain expressed permission for that specific session.
What Do I Need?
If meeting online, you will need a private space where you won’t be interrupted, a good internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone (most smart phones will do the trick, though personally I prefer my laptop for this). If meeting in person, just bring yourself, I’ll provide a quiet, undisturbed location where you can feel safe in both body and soul.
You Can Expect to Be Heard
A spiritual director listens with one ear to God and the other to the directee, always encouraging the directee to recognize where God can be found throughout the journey. At its core, spiritual direction attends to the faithfulness and initiative of God. The Holy Spirit is really the Director of the time together as both parties pay attention to God’s movements and call.
How Do I Start?
Contact me by phone or email, and we can set up a first meeting, which is about 30 minutes long. During the meeting we will talk about your reasons for seeking spiritual direction, my philosophy and style of spiritual direction, and you can ask any questions. Then you can decide if you would like to set a date/time for a first session with me. Because spiritual direction, like many good things, is best when it can have a long, cumulative effect most people choose to meet once a month in an ongoing relationship. (Bi-weekly, quarterly, and annually are also an option.)
What About Payment?
Session fees are on a sliding scale between $40-$75 per session, and I encourage the directee to decide what is comfortable within that range. Sometimes the people who need spiritual direction the most may find it financially challenging, or if you are new to spiritual direction this may be the first time you have paid for a self care service. In these cases starting at the low end of the scale is a very good option. On the other hand, some people find that spiritual direction is a financial investment worth any cost or they can comfortably afford the higher end of the scale, and in this case, thank you in advance for your support, it enables me to offer my time at a lower cost to others who can’t. At our first session, I’ll ask you where you would like to start, and I’ll invoice you accordingly. You can pay by check through the mail or through the Venmo app.
